INVESTMENT CASTING-AIR MELTING PROCESS
Investment Casting, also known as lost wax casting, is a precision casting technique that produces strong and detailed metal parts for different segments such Automotive, Consumer, Medical and industrial applications.
Below are the steps of AIR MELTING CASTINGĀ process
1. Pattern Creation:
The process begins with the creation of a prototype, which is a replica of the final part. Those prototypes/ molds can be made of materials such as wax and plastic.
2.Parts Assembly:
After the manufacturing of prototypes , the multiple patterns are assembled to form a cluster, known as a tree or gating system. This system includes the main casting and necessary components like gates, runners, and vents. These additions help facilitate the flow of molten metal and the removal of air during the casting process.
3. Investment (Mold) Formation:
After the formation of the pattern tree, it goes under the sheeling process. This process made in several layers, each layer being allowed to dry before the next layer is added. Clay deposits are usually composed of fine silica or zircon.
4.Dewaxing (wax removal): .
In the dewaxing process, Ā clay shells are heated to remove wax or other material from the mold. This step creates a hole the size of the original pattern in the ceramic mold.
- Preheating:
After insurance is removed, the ceramic molds are pre heated to high temperatures to ensure that they can withstand intense molten metal without cracking
5.Pouring (Metal Casting):
Liquid metal/ molten metal Ā is poured into pre-heated ceramic molds. The metal wax fills the remaining cavities, mirroring the original pattern. The molds are filled completely to ensure that the final baking is even and free of debris.
Cooling:
- Once the metal has solidified and taken the shape of the mold, the entire assembly is allowed to cool down. The cooling time depends on the size and complexity of the casting.
6. Shell Removal:
After the metal has solidified and cooled, the ceramic shell removed from the casting. This can be done through mechanical means or by using chemicals to dissolve the ceramic material.
7.Finishing:
To achieve dimensional accuracy and surface finish, casting part undergo various finishing processes, such as machining, grinding, and polishing
8.Quality Control:
Investment Casting or lost wax casting, is a specific method for producing advanced and high-quality metal parts. Every step, from the creation of prototypes to the inspection of the final products, is critical to achieving the proper accuracy. This casting technique is useful in a variety of industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, etc., as it has the ability to create hard surfaces with smooth surfaces Focus objects quality ensures that the final casting meets the stringent standards required in these industries
