Vacuum Investment Casting
What is Vacuum Investment Casting?
Vacuum investment casting is a sophisticated metal forming process that combines traditional investment casting techniques with advanced vacuum technology
How exactly does vacuum investment casting it work?
Vacuum investment casting is a precise manufacturing process used to produce high-quality metal parts. It begins with creating a detailed wax pattern, which is coated with a ceramic slurry and then covered with ceramic sand and stucco. The wax is then melted away in an autoclave, leaving a hollow mold. The mold is placed in a vacuum chamber before molten metal is poured in. The vacuum eliminates air bubbles and oxidation, ensuring cleaner, stronger parts with superior surface finish ranging 1 to 5 microns.
The machine has two configurations, a vertical two-chamber system and a horizontal three-chamber system. In the vertical setup lower chamber the ceramic shell is placed and evacuated to a low vacuum, and then raised close to the melt crucible for pouring. The horizontal three-chamber system ensures consistent vacuum levels between chambers, with integrated crucible ramming and melting. This increases efficiency, allowing more melts and higher metal output per hour, all while maintaining high vacuum levels. After cooling, the ceramic shell is removed, and the final part undergoes any necessary finishing. This process is ideal for industries requiring intricate, high-performance components.
Vacuum Investment Casting
Why It Matters?
Vacuum metal investment casting is ideal for creating high-performance, detailed parts with minimal defects. While it can be more expensive than other methods, it’s perfect for applications where quality is non-negotiable.
Where it is used?
Industries like aerospace, medical, defense, automotive and other industrial applications vacuum investment casted parts are used. Vacuum investment casting is perfect for creating parts like turbine blades, surgical tools, engine components, Turbocharger components and valves, where high quality and precision are critical.
Why Choose Vacuum Investment Casting?
- Precision: Parts come out with excellent accuracy and smooth surfaces.
- Complex Designs: It can handle intricate shapes that other methods can’t.
- Part weight & size: Parts between 10gms to 20 kg weights, size – up to 400 mm lengths and thickness from 1 mm to 75 mm can be achieved using vacuum investment casting.
- Fewer Defects: The vacuum environment prevents air bubbles, making for stronger components reduces oxidation of parts.
- Versatile Materials: Works with a wide range of metals, including stainless steel, titanium, high-performance super alloys and reactive metals more.
In summary, the vacuum investment casting process enables the production of high-quality, parts with improved performance and reliability, by often eliminating the need for additional machining or assembly.
